You can do anything! – regardless of experience or training

As one of the comments on this video says, the best comedy comments on reality.

This skit was on the January 14 Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Daniel Radcliffe. It’s been awhile since SNL turned out such a funny, poignant and complete skit from beginning to end.

Having hired and managed Gen Y and Millennials in the workplace and now coaching 7 and 8 year old girls, this mainstream commentary on the current state of the parenting and education institutions resonated with me.

This is a time in which everyone has willing thrown out their privacy and kids get told they’re great and they’re winners, no matter what they do – which makes it all that much more difficult to manage or coach them when they think all they have to do it show up.

Hard to pick my favorite line, but these are my two contenders:

“My self esteem is through the roof because no one has ever been honest with me about how mediocre I am.”

“It doesn’t matter if you have skills or training or years of experience – you can do it!”

– My name is Jon Friesch, and I’ve spent the bulk of my life trying to give that name some meaning.

Very funny and very true blog. This describes half the Gen Y’s on my block here in trendy Royal Oak. That skit made me feel vindicated b/c this lack of self awareness and selfishness drives me nuts. Facebook is the perfect platform for these self promoting attention pigs to get the admiration that so dearly crave from their mommy and daddy and friends. Great blog Jon, keep up the good work.
