Tico Tico – like you’ve never seen it before (bet you didn’t know you’ve already heard it at least once)

Tico Tico no Fuba is a classic Brazillian tune – most often heard on guitar. It was written by Zequinha de Abreu in 1917.

Here, it’s played by the “Duo Siqueira Lima” – Fernando, from Brazil, and Cecelia, from Uruguay – at the Brazilian Music Institute in Florida. What makes it special is that their hand-work and trading off of picking on their own notes and then each other’s notes on the guitar is nothing short of stunning.

If you haven’t seen this, please give it a listen:

– My name is Jon Friesch, and I wish I could do this.

Hey Jon, I few months ago, I stumbled upon an impressive Joe Jackson compilation by a “Jon Friesch”. Question.. are you the master that has put that together? I was able to download Vol 14-16 and 27-30 and am blown away!!! (Of course, if you are not that Jon, please feel free to ignore this.) Otherwise, I would be deeply grateful if you reached out to me in my pursuit of Vol 1-13 & 17-26 !! (oh, and if you get a chance to check out my blog called http://www.TheDailyVinyl.com, well that’d be super. — I film my turntable in random places & film concerts in Nashville.) Blessings, brother!

      Hey there,

I am, in fact, that Jon. It’s one of my few Internet claims to fame. The premise of the collection is that I took all of the live shows I could from each tour and included the best version of each song (defined by sound, interesting solo, arrangement, etc) in roughly the same order it appeared on the normal tour setlist. That’s why there are 26 volumes… at the time that I made it, there were 26 tours.

I know they’re all roaming about. Dimeadozen has them all, if I’m not mistaken. Otherwise, I might be able to help – though it could take a bit of time.

I’m glad you found these, and me. Thanks for the note.

      Jon

  2. Apparently dimeadozen is closed to new registration! aaagh!

Well, I have not been able to locate the other volumes yet. Do you have a Dropbox that you could share briefly? That would be so hella awesome!! Or if you have any other easy-share options (I’d hate for you to spend much time helping me out). my email is thedude@thedailyvinyl.com.
